ACTING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE PRESENTS
A One-week Intensive Summer Musical Showcase for
Ages 7 – 15

THE MAGICAL LAND OF OZ
Book by Tim Kelly
Music by Bill Francouer

Overview of the Program

AFYP’s Summer Musical Showcase is a week-long intensive program of fun and excitement! With our younger actors we will rehearse and perform a musical production in only one week! This summer we have chosen a new version of the beloved classic “The Magical Land of Oz”. This ensemble based show has a role for everyone with classic characters and high-energy music. Please see the “About the Musical” section below for more details.

What can you expect during AFYP Summer Musical Showcase? Monday: actors make friends while playing entertaining theater games; directors determine the best fit for each actor, and they will receive their roles in the production. Monday through Thursday: actors rehearse this lively children’s musical while continuing to develop their acting, vocal, and dance skills. Thursday: actors run through the play off-book (memorized) while adding exciting production elements such as costumes, lights, sound, and even a set! Friday: we add technical elements for our final dress rehearsal, and Saturday: actors perform their musical for an audience of family and friends in George Mason University’s professional TheaterSpace! Throughout the week, our young actors can also expect to explore a variety of engaging theater activities while boosting confidence and learning to use their body, voice, and imagination.

Affectionately described as “boot camp theater,” AFYP’s Summer Musical Showcase is an exhilarating combination of theater training and professional stage experience, and a wonderful supplement to the AFYP curriculum. This program requires a lot of discipline and focus and is an exciting challenge for any young actor.
