ACTING FOR YOUNG PEOPLE
AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAMS
General Information
Please note that the following notes are especially applicable to PTA/PTO-sponsored activities in public schools but our programs can be tailored to fit any school’s needs.

AFYP’s after-school programs are modifications of our general curriculum; we usually do an eight-week basic acting class that culminates in an informal performance so that students can share what they’ve learned and gain confidence from that. If a school has a particular interest from our curriculum, i.e., improvisation, movement, etc., we are happy to tailor our program to meet those interests. Our most popular program is the basic acting class mentioned above. AFYP presents each student with a Certificate of Achievement at the end of each session.

AFYP works with each school’s PTA to determine fee structure, and adheres to FCPS guidelines regarding pricing. As an example, a class may cost the cap of $9 per classroom hour, plus a $1 materials fee, or $10 per class per child, for a total of $80 for an eight-week program. A limited number of full or partial scholarships may be available.

In adherence with FCPS regulations, AFYP has professional liability insurance and provides PTA representative with proof of policy.

In adherence with FCPS regulations, AFYP’s after school program instructors have had/will have Virginia State Criminal Background Checks and proof of clearance will be provided to PTA representative.

Whenever possible, we appreciate having a parent liaison, and depending on the school’s wishes, a parent representative onsite.

PTA representative provides AFYP with basic contact information for students/families (phones/emails) so that we can email scripts or notices to absent students without having to trouble our coordinator and in order to keep things flowing as efficiently as possible. It will also help with proper name spelling for achievement certificates at the end of classes. The information is only used for communication purposes for the duration of a session.

AFYP currently works with several elementary schools, including: Hunters Woods, Cherry Run, Daniels Run, Crossfield, Mosby Woods, Laurel Hill, Providence, Orange Hunt, St. Leo the Great School and Flint Hill School. Recent partner schools include Holy Trinity School and Sidwell Friends in Washington, DC, with additional programs in Winter/Spring 2011 (Vienna Elementary and Eagle View Elementary), and more in Fall 2011 and Winter/Spring 2012. We try to stagger the start and end dates of our classes whenever possible in order for Mary Lechter or other senior company representatives to be able to attend first and last classes of each session, as well as make periodic visits to each school throughout the session to observe classes.

Company background information, articles, and sample after school presentation programs are included in this packet. Please feel free to contact Mary for further information, scheduling, etc.
