Mini Actors' Showcase: For Ages 5-6

The Little DRAGONS - Spring 2017

The Little DRAGONS - Spring 2017

In a 60-minute class, our youngest actors are introduced to the building blocks of acting and theater. Great for new and returning actors, this class encourages students to use their imaginations in a fun and safe environment, and gain confidence as they learn the process of putting on a play. In addition to growing through acting training, the cast will have the experience of performing for a live audience in Mason’s TheaterSpace!

The Mini Actors Showcase is a prerequisite for our other programs and we recommend a minimum of two sessions at this level of study.

Neverland Adventures - Fall 2014

Neverland Adventures - Fall 2014

This 90-minute class provides a more advanced option for our growing young actors. This class builds on the basics introduced in our Mini Actors’ showcase, concentrating on story-structure, characterization, the creative process, and acting techniques. Our Young Actors will experience a more realized performance, complete with technical elements such as sound and costumes. Our Young Actors Showcase is an excellent training ground for our musical showcases!

The Young Actors Showcase is a prerequisite for our other programs and we recommend a minimum of two sessions at this level of study.

The Musical Showcase Program is designed to equip students with basic musical theater performance techniques while also giving them the opportunity to present their new skills on stage. AFYP’s approach is to be age-appropriate yet modern, compelling for actors and audience alike, and to feature each young actor prominently in a significant role. AFYP strives to create the most professional working environment possible, and we put the children’s needs first. This unique program gives them the experience of performing while getting top-level training. The rehearsal process is an opportunity for them to work with a professional director, staff, and guest artists. In our musical showcase, students learn audition techniques, vocal technique, choreography, characterization, and the process of putting on a play from auditions to final bows! It is an intensive program, and one that provides young actors a pride of ownership as they develop their skills as performers and an enhanced confidence in their off-stage lives.

The Advanced Showcase Program is designed to provide students with basic theater training an opportunity to grow and apply their skills in a production-based setting. AFYP’s approach is to be age-appropriate yet modern, compelling for actors and audience alike, and to feature each young actor prominently in a significant role. AFYP strives to create the most professional working environment possible, and we put the students’ development first. This unique program gives them the experience of performing while getting top-level training. The rehearsal process is an opportunity for them to work with a professional director, staff, and guest artists on approaches to characterization, movement, and dramatic structure. We typically present a non-musical production in the fall and a musical in the spring, to meet the needs and interests of all of our students. It is an intensive program, and one that provides young actors a pride of ownership as they develop their skills as performers and an enhanced confidence in their off-stage lives.
